A Creative Artist

Living in the tension of life is far harder than living in the tension of a play, for me anyway.

There I feel joyously at ease, safely tucked into the story’s beginning, middle, and end. And then there’s the applause, and the stage manager, and just-one-cigarette.

I want to live life in the same way! Not with applause and smokes, mind you, but in the moment.

I am trained in a psycho-physical based acting approach, where the actor hovers in the unknown, follows the flow of imagery, and seeks to stand in any emotion, with impossible freedom.

But I’ve found that in life, I’m only able to stand (and enjoy) being in the now if I’m feeding my soul.

So my “what if?” is this: what if creative flow only runs as deep as one’s connection to the Divine?

Asking this question has resulted in my daily practice: a psycho-physical acting approach grounded in Ignatian spirituality, mysticism, and meditation. It, and the promise of black coffee, is what get me up in the morning.

The Energy of Creation inspires me to persevere in a good, artistic, and generous life.

As a teacher and private coach, I enjoy learning alongside my students. With an M.F.A. in Performance Pedagogy from Loyola Marymount University, I am currently an adjunct professor at AMDA. I am also an acting coach for experienced actors to beginners. I have a studio in Manhattan Beach, CA where we can work or I can come to you:)

A Creative Producer

The most meaningful artistic collaborations in which I’ve engaged reach for social change. Whether it is in theater, non-profit leadership, educational or institutional settings, I hope for the opportunity to uplift and empower communities.

As I contemplate the joy I experience learning to act and to live, I encourage myself and all theater makers to persevere in art-making, however possible.

For no matter how difficult living “the life” may become, we share with the Divine a unique and intimate place…the joy of the creative act.

Current Projects

Marin Shakespeare – Shakespeare for Social Justice – Folsom Prison, California

My collaboration with Marin Shakespeare’s Shakespeare for Social Justice, is with teaching artists and men who are incarcerated at Folsom Prison. The drama therapy-based rehearsal process of “The Tempest”, Shakespeare Writer’s Workshop, and “Macbeth” have yielded growth, joy, and notable performances. We will be presenting “Much Ado About Nothing” in 2024, and I will have the pleasure of playing Beatrice.

Teaching empathy, teamwork, and acting, the program culminates in fully produced Shakespeare works. The cast of  teachers joins the actors on the prison grounds for rehearsals and the final performance for the men of Folsom prison.

On The Hook: A Climate-Conscious Exploration of Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie – Brooklyn, New York

In the Fall of 2023, I was in New York, acting as the assoicate producer for “Christie”.a site-specific adaptation of “Anna Christie”. On The Hook’s Creative Producer, Covi Loveridge Brannan, and fellow eco-conscious artists staged the production on a Brooklyn barge. The company partnered with local businesses and offered art workshops to children in Red Hook.
